What’s Next For Joe’s Walk

i Jul 11th No Comments by

Friends and supporters, we wanted to take a minute to update everyone on where we are with Joe’s Walk For Change, some decisions that we have made, and what is next.

First, thank you for all of your support. We appreciate everything you do to help spread Joe’s message of hope, love and kindness. We have had some really incredible people do some really incredible things in Joe’s honor, and it means the world to us. We have also had a number of people ask how they can help, and before we share that, we would like to explain the “One Million Like, One Million Miles, One Million Dollars” project.

Prior to Joe’s tragic accident, he set a goal. It was huge, but he believed he could do it. He wanted to make 1 million people aware of the impact of bullying, the tragedy of youth suicide and the hope of community. He believed the best way to mark and measure that was through Facebook and Twitter. He also wanted to provide education and support across the country, he believed the best way to do that was by raising 1 million dollars and then providing education himself and funding to organizations that supported equality, bullying prevention and suicide prevention. After we lost him, we saw a huge influx of people who wanted to walk in his honor. So we added the miles to the goal.

Joe’s Walk operates with an all volunteer staff, we work with community partners that Joe established relationships with prior to his accident, and we will continue to create new relationships that honor his original goals and wishes. As we work toward the “1 Million” goals, we will continue to provide education in states that would like it. This coming school year, we will be talking about Joe and his story at 300 schools across Utah. Shortly, we will also open the calendar to schools, community organizations, churches and youth groups in other states, for either in person presentations or presentations via live video stream. Please watch for details here on the website, on Facebook and on Twitter for more details on that program.

Additionally, we will be opening community walks again. Community walks are an important opportunity to provide education and resources in your own community, raise funds to support programs, and help us spread Joe’s message. If you would like to schedule a Joe’s Walk Community Walk, please go here: Community Walks

We will provide details on how to set up the community walk, a special “Community Walk” page for your specific walk on JoesWalkForChange.org, signs, poster and banner designs, a special community walk t-shirt design and discounts on t-shirt and printing orders through our community partners.  Additionally, we will partner with an organization in your area that aligns with the Joe’s Walk mission and values, meaning a portion of the funds raised will stay in your community to help create change, encourage equality and lower the number of instances of bullying and suicide. You can also find other Community Walks Here.  (if you are listed there for a Community Wallk, and no longer wish to hold it, please let us know and we will remove the pin)

Most importantly, however, you as one person have the ability to create change. You can walk in alone or with friends and share your miles walked with us here: Miles For Joe

You can also make a donation here: Donate
Or you can purchase Joe’s Walk For Change items here: Store

These three things may seem small or insignificant, but they are not. If we work together, the little things have the greatest impact.

We have decided, however, that we will not officially complete Joe’s original walk route. The task of putting all of those people in order by who submitted which sections is quite a task, but more importantly, safety would be a HUGE issue in far to many sections. After losing Joe, the thought of losing anyone else is just to much. If anyone walks a portion of the original route, we will still record it on a special map, count it under the miles counter and share it with Joe’s followers and fans. We will also provide a safety vest to help you be more visible while you are walking, please let us know.

Thank you again for all of your support. If you have questions, concerns, ideas or thoughts, please feel free to reach out to us on the Contact Us Page here: Contact Joe’s Walk For Change
